Restoring access to water for Acapulqueans represents a significant journey of fixing water systems and replacing water tanks (plastic cisterns) which are a key tool for communities in Guerrero. Since water supply is limited and even in communities with restored water systems, water comes and goes, it is crucial for families to secure cisterns. Even before OTIS, cisterns played a key role in Acapulco where it is common to experience water outages.

The estimated cost of these cistern tanks by unit is over 2,500 pesos and up to 6,000 pesos for installation services (around 146 dollars to 350 dollars). The cost is approximately what a family would have to spend for a 1,100 L tank.

We are choosing to help our community by distributing cistern tanks to household in need of restored water access.
